Christmas Ski Holidays

I don't know about you, but already I'm certainly chomping at the bit to get the skis waxed and back out onto the slopes. It is apparently going to snow down to about 1,750m tomorrow but it won't be around for long so I won't be getting them out too quick.

As a consequence of this the next ski opportunity is therefore going to have to be in December and for most of you skiing Christmas. I personally love Christmas in the Alps and its not driven by the romance of a white Christmas either. With a family of two (they will be 7 and 9 by Christmas), I kind of remember the anti-climax that was Christmas, two months of build up undone, literally, by 10 minutes of unwrapping!  Might seem a little disingenuous to the hard work of my parents (and yes I was grateful), but when you are children that is how it is. Early morning rise, big excitement, then subsidence.

So is it different on a Christmas ski holiday, yes in my view. The excitement is over a week, and on Christmas Day they can go and get lots of energy out of the system, before coming back and enjoying the presents. This shorter window and the fact they have ex-sponged a lot of energy already allows them to appreciate more what they have. Christmas is important but so is life basically on a Christmas ski holiday - try it, you'll understand a lot more after it than by reading my ramblings!

Ski Family

Family Skiing or in this case snowboarding
March will see the full launch of the new family ski site from Chalet Ski, as they seek to penetrate into the growing family ski market. Family skiing has always been popular, but nowadays even more so. School holidays are forcing more family skiers into the peak weeks of half term and easter, but we are finding that due to the high cost of these particular weeks many family ski groups are starting to take their children out at other times to avoid the peak week prices.

Family Ski Resort

One of the best family friendly ski resorts in the Alps is actually situated in the Chamonix Valley, famous for some of the most extreme skiing in the world! Yet Les Houches, often frequented by the rich and famous, including the wife of Tiger Woods and her children, is the perfect family friendly ski resort.

Tree line skiing and family friendly ski slopes and ski areas, including a dedicated beginners area, make this a real gem and therefore if you do visit, you might be surprised who is standing next to you!

Family Chalet

When planning a family ski holiday, and we know from our own experience, it seems to require precision planning to make it happen, least of all make it run smoothly. One company that really are taking the hassle out of the planning and the execution are however Chamonix Exclusive.  Not only will they book on your behalf all your ski equipment, ski lessons, and ski passes, when you arrive you'll find a nanny / childcare support, an on call driver, a chalet host, and your own professional chef.

Inside the chalet the whole family won't be disappointed as the chalet has cinema projection for all the family, a full sized pool table for older children (and parents), home cinema, a great selection of DVD's, Wii, and the all important sunken luxury hot tub.

Easter Ski

Whilst the mad rush for family chalets is focused around the Christmas, New Year, and half term ski breaks, slowly but surely the Easter skiing holiday is being snapped up after the great snow conditions of recent years. More competitively priced than the other weeks, with many high altitude resorts open until May, those in the know are opting to take the family away at this increasingly popular time.

Keep quiet therefore is our recommendation, we don't after all want everyone to hear about it.

Family Chalets

One of the best family chalets in the Alps is probably situated in the Chamonix Valley in France. Chalet Prarion is situated on the piste so provides a true ski in ski out chalet that offers exceptional luxury family ski holidays, accommodates 12 people, boasts cinema projection, a games room, sunken jacuzzi, four staff (including qualified nanny support), and a host of other features, yet costs little more than a 'normal' ski chalet.
